Solid or Hollow WPC decking?
Difference between solid and hollow WPC decking material
Compared to choosing real wood, you may be confused when choosing WPC decking. Should I choose Hollow or Solid WPC decking? In fact, different models have different characteristics and advantages, and disadvantages. As a composite manufacturer which produces Hollow and Solid WPC decking at the same time, let’s talk about the difference between them.
Solid WPC decking features
- Looks more like real wood
- Have large bearing capacity, suitable for place heavy objects on the deck
- Better sound-absorbing performance
Hollow WPC decking features
- Lightweight, easy to transport and install
Both solid and hollow decking boards are similar in appearance to the wood, but with more color options than wood. As the name implies, a solid plate is a full size. Solid boards usually look more realistic, and with more granular detail variation. The most obvious exterior difference between the two decks is the interior, where the hollow slabs are designed as hollow tunnels, with square or round holes visible in the sections. During installation, the exposed section of the hollow plate shall be covered by an edge banding plate.
The performance of both hollow and solid boards is better than that of traditional real wood. With the development of wood-plastic technology, composite decking is more durable than wood and does not require regular painting and frequent maintenance like real wood. The performance difference between the two has a number of aspects: for example, the general solid board has better sound-absorbing performance, walking on it will be quieter. The solid board has a relatively long service life because of its better strength and load-bearing performance. Hollow plate due to the internal hollow design, if the water vapor invasion for a long time will affect the durability.
In terms of materials, because the Hollow structure uses fewer materials, the price of Hollow WPC Decking is generally cheaper. But from a durable point of view, the performance of a solid one is better and has a longer service life. Whether you use hollow or solid boards, you can significantly reduce maintenance costs in terms of post-maintenance compared to wood floors.
The Application Type
Solid boards are more suitable for use in public areas with large crowds, such as bars and restaurants. We also recommend using solid boards in commercial projects. Hollow panels are suitable for private use areas where temperature or humidity changes are small. In addition, if you plan to renovate your outdoor space DIY, hollow slabs are also a good choice to reduce the difficulty and time of construction.
